Fakhar Zaman; Pakistan Champion trophy star says that PSL (Pakistan Super League), which has started on Friday this week at Dubai, UAE, has made him a superstar wearing national color in an international arena.
He is the first cricketer from Mardan region of Pakistan to have scored a century in the ODI. This feat was achieved by Zaman in a series against Zimbabwe in July. There he also managed to score a record 515 runs in just 5 matches.
He is a left-handed batsman who opens for Pakistan mostly and boasts a good back lift along with a daring approach whenever he comes to the crease. As for Zaman’s strongest asset in a match is his timing by which he is not afraid of any ball that comes at him whatever fast pace.
He was commissioned in Pakistan’s Navy as a soldier on his father’s wishes but he always wanted to be a cricketer. He found his passion even in Navy as he passed through the domestic level matches with flying colors.
He made his presence known on a large national scale after playing in the Quaid e Azam Champion Trophy of 2-16-17 season as he scored 663 runs in the tournament.
However, it was PSL were Fakhar Zaman’s batting prowess was noticed largely.
Mickey Arthur; Pakistan’s head coach of the cricket team liked his skills and daring nature. The path for Zaman in PSL was opened after Sharjeel Khan lost his time during PSL 2.
In the second PSL edition, Zaman scored 177 runs in only 8 matches which also included his half-century. All of this caught the eyes of selectors and that of Mickey, who were all looking for a competent opener in a limited format match.
Fakhar himself calls PSL as a launching pad of his career in cricket.
Fakhar talking about PSL said,
“PSL has a great role in lifting my career overall. We play a lot of cricket on national eel and even get highlighted. However, for international level, only PSL is able to give us that highlight. I still remember that I scored half a century against Karachi Kings and Mickey Arthur said to me that I was ready to play for Pakistan.”
Fakhar is optimistic saying that Lahore Qalandars will not disappoint their fans in the PSL 4. He says,
“Qalandars, we think we are one dimensional. Last year, he only focused on hard hitters and lacked some middle order this year we have planned for a strong and experienced middle order. We now have great players like AB, Hafez and Harris Sohail, who all give us strength.”
Fakhar who made 277 runs in 10 matches of PSL 3 says, “I am very determined this year to score more runs and finish the tournament for my team.”
